Decoding your CNA Results…

Thanks so much for taking the time to have some fun with me on this…I am on a mission to show everybody how they can embrace their creativity – and it is my wish that this simple little quiz will develop further over time…but for now….it is in its simplest form.

I have kept the classifications to 3 main aptitudes, the visual creative, the auditory/wordsmith and the practical.  None are ‘better’ than the others, and whilst it may seem that the ‘practical’ is the least creative, it has many creative benefits – watch for future posts to learn more!

So without further ado let me introduce the 3 Basic Aptitudes making up your CNA…

Predominantly A means that you are a Visual Creative.

A keen observational eye and appreciation of aesthetics appeal to you.  Colours, shapes, textures…you see them all as a visual feast.

Your ideal creative paths involve manipulating images – whether by painting, drawing, collage, photography, quilting, creating a landscape, decorating your home, choosing outfits, creating a gorgeous festive table spread…

You take it all in, even a simple walk to the park has you scanning for patterns in the leaves, colours in the flowers and inspiration in how others have decorated their letterboxes!

Predominantly B means that you are an Auditory Creative.

You love nothing more than crafting a magnificent story, whether it be on your blog, adding some spice to your reports for work, writing cards and letters for special occasions (because everybody loves to get mail!), or maybe just your personal journal.

Or perhaps you hear the sounds of nature, turn prose into snippets of song, or just love to belt out a tune to make the boring stuff less boring.

Words and music have the power to heal, the power to weave a magical image – beauty is in the interpretation and you love the way that you can play with words and sounds.

Your ideal creative path involves writing, blogging, music making, maybe some art creating with music playing for inspiration, using words and typography to craft a visual poster, join a band or grab a bunch of mates for a book club or music exploration club.

Predominantly C means that you are a Practical Creative.

You’re  not much into all that flourishing and time wasting, in fact people who are late infuriate you….and as for all that crafty messy stuff…grrrr!  It’s fine to be creative but does it have to involve so much stuff?  If there is a quick and sensible solution you’ll take it.

Being organised is a wonderful trait – but sometimes you need to relax and let some flow happen.  If you set some creative boundaries you can make it work I promise…

You may be startled by a blank page, but if you use a creative deck for inspiration it’s not so daunting, take some photos and see what inspires you, look outside the window and write a poem or descriptive text about what you see, and when you are ready, buy a cheap palette of watercolour discs and just play with the brush and the colours.  Set aside some time when you can explore your creativity and you will find that you enjoy the bliss of just being…instead of planning and thinking all the time.

Well, it’s important to remember that as will all ‘traits’ quizes, in real live we are usually a mixture of many different traits, and  these over simplified 3 categories cannot possibly encapsulate all that creativity is…but I would love to know if it is just a little bit like you….let me know at nicky@artfulgenius.com and look out for CNA based artful posts.

Have a wonderfully artful day!

  1. This was interesting! I wonder if I would get the same results if I did the quiz more than once. And, if there were no kid-related questions. I don’t interact with children much, and tend to run away when they’re nearby. :)

  2. Hi Nicky,

Yep, nailed me! I am totally a visual creative! That’s why I have an art blog and am trying to start a business being a virtual assistant to visual artists :-) Wonderful job xx

  3. Anne-Marie says:

I am a recovering work-aholic (!) and was a typical C at one point. The test result was spot on (A/B mix) as I have loosened up quite a bit now and ditched my former job to design, sculpt and write for a living. Great post and many thanks for the personal email with the results.

  4. Such great fun to research and prepare, and even better to get positive feedback about it’s accuracy! Thanks Anne-Marie & Lorinda – virtual assistant to visual artists…what a wonderful niche! Anne-Marie – write and sculpt for a living…bliss!!!

  5. Sooo interesting! Thanks Nicky!
