When I owned the ARTrox Imagination Station I realised that many people did not know how to allow their children the freedom to create art, and many didn’t understand the simple importance of art.
Art teaches many skills such as problem solving, observation, lateral thinking & the sheer joy of creating something from nothing. With busy activity schedules art for the sake of it is often ignored! Art offers a way to try out new ideas, explore concepts, relationships & exercise imagination.
From my own experience and observations I developed a set of key discussion points that I deliver as a dynamic talk – designed to be fun and funny, but to give parents that Ah-ha moment when they realise that a dog with 5 legs and purple spots is a creation to be celebrated, and “I can’t” simply means “I don’t know how”.
I teach practical strategies to help parents unleash their creativity and embrace the creative spirit in their children. I show how to discuss children’s art with them, encouraging words, helping without taking over, setting up a simple art station at home & more! I’m passionate about this because brains really ARE built with ART.
In the current over bureaucratized academic climate of NAPLAN tests and national curriculum we can’t simply rely on over stressed over stretched teachers, many of whom do not feel comfortable with arts themselves, to teach our kids how to learn using arts strategies. It is up to parents to do their best to instill a confidence in creativity and asking questions that will endure through the years ahead.
